EGA Pressure Washing

Paver Sealing in Northeast Florida

In Northeast Florida's humid subtropical climate, unsealed pavers absorb water, UV radiation, and salt air constantly. The result is fading color, washed-out joint sand, and the kind of algae and mold growth that spreads fast once it gets a foothold. Paver sealing creates a protective barrier that slows all of it — restoring the original color, stabilizing the joints, and giving you a surface that's easier to clean and slower to stain.

EGA Pressure Washing uses professional-grade sealers matched to the paver material: penetrating sealers for natural travertine and slate that need breathability, and high-solid surface sealers for concrete and brick that benefit from a harder protective film. Every job starts with a thorough clean and a full joint re-sand so the sealer bonds to the surface rather than sealing in debris or loose sand.

The sealing process begins with a deep pressure wash to remove algae, mold, oil, and surface staining. Once the pavers are clean and fully dry — usually 24 to 48 hours depending on humidity — we re-sand the joints with polymeric sand rated for Florida's rainfall before applying sealer in two coats.

We use solvent-based and water-based options depending on the look you want. Solvent-based sealers give a wet, enhanced color and a slightly glossy finish. Water-based sealers are lower-sheen and better suited for travertine or light-colored pavers where the natural look matters more than pop. Both options are rated for Florida's UV index.

In St. Johns County's coastal zones, we typically recommend re-sealing every 2–3 years, though driveways with regular vehicle traffic and pool decks with heavy chemical exposure often benefit from resealing every 18 months. We'll tell you where your pavers land when we do the estimate.

Sealed pavers also hold joint sand longer — a practical point for anyone who has watched ants undermine a paver edge or weeds sprout from joints the season after a heavy rain. Polymeric joint sand hardens slightly when watered and resists erosion, which is why we always re-sand before sealing rather than skipping that step.

We are veteran-owned and operated, with over 8 years serving Northeast Florida homeowners. Our crew shows up on time, uses commercial-grade equipment, and doesn't leave until the job site is clean.

Paver Sealing — Frequently Asked Questions

How often do pavers need to be sealed in Florida?

Every 2–3 years for most surfaces in Northeast Florida. Driveways and pool decks in high-traffic or high-chemical-exposure areas often need it every 18–24 months. Coastal properties near salt air typically fall on the shorter end of that range.

What type of sealer do you use?

We use both solvent-based and water-based sealers depending on the paver material and the finish you want. Solvent-based gives a richer, wet-look color. Water-based is lower-sheen and better for travertine and natural stone. We'll recommend the right product during the estimate.

Can you seal pavers that have efflorescence (white chalky staining)?

Yes, but the efflorescence has to come off first. We treat it with an acid wash designed for pavers, neutralize, and fully rinse before sealing. Sealing over efflorescence traps it under the film and the staining returns within months.

Will sealing make my pavers look wet or shiny all the time?

Only if you choose a high-gloss solvent-based sealer. We also offer matte and satin finishes that enhance color without adding visible sheen. Most travertine and natural stone jobs use a matte or natural-look sealer.

How long before I can walk on or drive on sealed pavers?

Light foot traffic is usually safe after 24 hours. Vehicle traffic should wait 48–72 hours. We'll give you the exact timeline based on the sealer used and the weather conditions that day.

Do you re-sand the joints before sealing?

Always. Skipping the re-sand step is one of the most common shortcuts in this trade. We use polymeric sand rated for Florida's rainfall because standard sand washes out quickly. The polymeric sand hardens slightly when wet and resists ants, weeds, and erosion.
